Falmouth UXB update: They’re planning to move the ‘bomb’ out into the Bay this afternoon. The land side exclusion zone has been reduced to 755m but there’ll be rolling exclusion zones on the water as it’s moved. Good luck lads!

The Autumn Equinox today. I can’t help but feel sadness for the fading light of summer and the ever shortening days ahead. The old sailors knew the equinox meant rougher water ahead, and didn’t pretend otherwise. So, let’s do what they did. Don’t fight the season, just set the right sails for it.
After evaluation the Royal Navy experts are planning to deal with the unexploded WWII American bomb near Falmouth Docks tomorrow morning. Over 1000 properties will be evacuated inside a 1.4km zone. Seems excessive but the device is right next to the fuel storage area of the docks. A big day coming.
On this day last year it touched freezing overnight. Last night the temperature didn’t drop below 18°C (64℉). It’s misty and humid. Strange weather for Cornwall in September.
Apparently the UXB is American. A 250kg missile from WWII. Notice to mariners issued but I wouldn’t be going anywhere near!
Eighty one years on, and the bombs dropped on Falmouth Docks during WWII can still affect daily lives
